Resource Conservation District of Santa Cruz County's Chipper Program
The Chipper Program is a FREE fuel load reduction service offered by the Resource Conservation District of Santa Cruz County (RCDSCC) to reduce wildfire threat in Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) areas of Santa Cruz County. This program assists residents in complying with defensible space regulations by providing grant funded chipping services to residents who clear vegetative fuels from their property. The RCDSCC will contract a chipping crew to chip vegetation removed in the creation and maintenance of defensible space around structures and access roads, at no cost to residents. To date, 11 fuel load reduction projects have been implemented with this program, establishing approximately 46 acres of defensible space and decreasing wildfire hazards for over 1,303 residents in 489 homes. For more information about this program and other fire prevention resources, please visit www.rcdsantacruz.org.

The mission of the RCDSCC is to help people protect, conserve and restore natural resources through information, education and technical assistance programs. The RCDSCC is a special district organized under state law. The RCDSCC is also a public resource agency and has no enforcement or regulatory functions.
